Savannah Grace at The Palms of Mount Pleasant Brings Even More to the Table

The Palms of Mount Pleasant
Savannah Grace at The Palms of Mount Pleasant is a name most Lowcountry residents already associate with quality nursing and rehabilitation care. But that’s not the whole story. In addition to being a part of the acclaimed assisted and senior living campus at The Palms, Savannah Grace and The Palms itself operate under the corporate umbrella of Five Star Senior Living, a nationwide company with a track record of excellence.

Savannah and Grace are actually two separate medical units with different yet frequently complementary mandates. Savannah is a long-term care facility serving patients who require extensive nursing care that night not be available in their own homes or in an assisted living setting. Grace focuses on short-term patients who have undergone major surgery or suffered a serious accident and require rehabilitative care until they can return to their previous way of life. While some patients under the care of either the Savannah or Grace units may also be residents of The Palms, many are not.

Bob Burns, Savannah Grace’s new administrator who came to the facilities from a similar position in Georgia, believes that the twin units at The Palms offer patients complete medical care in a pleasant and nurturing environment.

“We are always seeking ways to make our care and rehabilitation services even better,” Burns said. “One important new element in this is the progress we are making toward integrating laboratory testing and results with our digital record-keeping. Once this is in place, we will be able to provide our medical teams with rapid results from the important lab tests they request.”

The administrator also praised the medical staffs of both facilities: “Excellence is important to us, and our staff meets or exceeds all state and federal requirements in every category.”

Burns noted that another significant service, for those who require it, is the Bridge to Rediscovery Program. Located beside the Savannah unit, Bridge to Rediscovery offers specialized care for patients who do not require extensive medical care but who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.

In terms of the overall patient experience at Savannah and Grace, Burns said that “The Palms campus is a lovely and gracious place in which to live and to also be medically cared for. We have a sous-chef on-site, as well as a certified dietary manager, so our patient meal service is both enjoyable and clinically sound. We also have a fleet of vehicles ranging from a bus to vans and automobiles to take ambulatory patients on outings or simply for a pleasant ride away from their care settings.”

And, on the campus itself, he noted, there is an attractive pond suitable for fishing and home to a flock of domesticated geese that many patients enjoy feeding.

Whether long-term or short-term, Savannah Grace offers patients quality care in a setting conducive to recovery, rehabilitation and maximizing their quality of life.
